The sponsorship of the Swindon RFU under 15 Fatboys was renewed for another year and then Bishopsgate was approached to help www.wheelsworkshop.org.
It was explained to Bishopsgate that Wheels Workshop required some racking to help with a storage issue, which if resolved would allow the workshop to introduce a car.
Bishopsgate have a large (50,000 sqft plus) warehouse in Royal Wootton Bassett which has recently been completely “racked out” with new extra high racking. This maximises the available storage space for customers. As a result there was an amount of old redundant racking which rather than scrap or resell Bishopsgate discovered would be really useful to the Wheels Workshop project based locally.
Wheels Workshop help young people usually sent by the local ‘academy schools’, like St. Joseph’s’, Common Wheel, Nova Herod. The pupils have been identified as students who will leave school with no GCSEs because of an array of behaviour issues. They get referred to Wheels Workshop in association with the Oakfield Project and work in the area of road safety, mechanics & improving driving & riding abilities. This gives the students a chance to be part of a team, instil a work ethic and provide a skill. This generally gets them on the right track, which will, hopefully lead to a much brighter future.
Bishopsgate are glad to have been able to help and if you are reading this and feel you can help then do not hesitate to contact Rob Fox, Project Leader at Wheels Workshop.
