“Without affordable access, without adequate mobility, Africa’s poor will be unable to take full advantage of any improvements in education, health, or other services.” The World Bank and Economic Commission for Africa
Good quality transport is often unavailable or unaffordable in developing countries, resulting in life-threatening delays in reaching appropriate healthcare. Pregnant women are especially vulnerable to such delays. Transaid creates innovative transport solutions which improve access to basic services. In last year our emergency transport programmes in Uganda, Zambia, Madagascar and Nigeria have recruited and trained over 1,200 volunteer emergency transport drivers, transported more than 8,800 people living in rural areas to healthcare facilities and equipped almost 500 community health workers with bicycles and training.
“We’re pleased to have been able to support Transaid during their Xmas appeal and we hope that this will spur others on to find out more about the charity’s projects and lend their assistance to such a worthy cause.” Say Tim Bloch, Bishopsgate MD
