Bishopsgate have decided to sponsor Taylor, a local Swindon girl, on her once in a lifetime adventure to Borneo. Taylor is currently taking part in the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, and as well as working at the local Cancer Shop in Swindon, Taylor has volunteered to go to Borneo in the summer of 2017.
She will participate in lots of voluntary work that will include taking part in beach clean ups, giving recyclable products to local women so they can turn it into sellable trinkets; building structures to benefit the locals (last year the group built a bridge across a river to enable children from a village on the other side to go to school) and replanting trees to help combat the serious deforestation that is happening now.
Taylor said, “It will involve a lot of physical hard work but I’m looking forward to getting stuck in. I will also be helping out with English lessons too. But it’s not all work work work. I will get an opportunity to go on a four/five day trek through the second oldest rainforest in the world…I just can’t wait”
With Bishopsgate’s pledge to become paperless, saving the forest and replanting of trees resonated with the team here especially Tim and Sharon who have championed this process over the last 12 months.
On talking to Taylor, I asked her where she found this opportunity: “I first found out about the trip through my secondary school, when Camps International (the charity that facilitates the trip) visited us to tell us all about it. Straight away I knew I wanted to go. The idea of helping and supporting people in their own environment to enhance and improve their quality of life is so rewarding, and the education and life experience was just too valuable to not make the most of this opportunity. I am able to go on this amazing trip because of Camps International, and also some wonderfully supportive local companies, like Bishopsgate, who are kindly sponsoring me”
So began the Bishopsgate partnership. Tim adds, “Taylor just sent to me an exploratory letter asking us to support her and this great adventure. She is a local girl and after a quick meet and greet we felt that it would be a good thing to do. Taylor has agreed to keep us fully updated on this unforgettable adventure and has promised lots of blogs and photographs along the way
Let the adventure begin………..
