“So what’s our run tomorrow then?” “Well it’s going to be a tad different to the norm. You are going to be on TV so make sure you look smart, the vehicle is clean and you bring your happy face with you”
While it was still the usual 06:00 start time for Graham and Gareth today was different for our Warrington duo as they were featuring in the BBC TV programme… Billion Dollar Deals and How They Changed Your World, Series 1: 2. Money: www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b097rqr4 via @bbciplayer
As to their role, Gareth said “We just had to carry out a normal safe installation in an upstairs room in a private house. The point the film was making is that safes are becoming increasingly popular in private houses and not just for valuables and cash but data too” He added, “In the real world we would have parked up outside the house, met the customer, carried out a quick health and safety audit by ‘walking’ the route, confirmed with the customer that it would be OK to drill into the floor and then get started. I reckon it would have taken us about an hour tops. The filming took all day!!!”
Graham adds, “Being involved in filming for TV was a real eye opener into just how lengthy the process can be. We had to keep repeating what we did so that they could film us from different angles from drilling the holes to allow the safe to be bolted down into the floor to lowering the tail-lift. While it took all day, it was edited down to about 2 minutes of footage on the programme”
But it was as Graham described it “Smashing” and overall a great experience and something a bit different from our normal working day.
