We are writing to our customers to inform them of the changes we are making to our CSCS card process following the withdrawal of the Construction Related Occupation (CRO) card last year.
As hauliers who deliver and install goods on your behalf to construction sites we are classified as non-construction workers and are therefore exempt from the scheme as from September 2017.
These changes have been well publicised in the industry but there may be some concern from your customers who still insist we provide CSCS cards. Although exempt from the scheme, Bishopsgate has taken the decision for its crews to continue holding a CSCS card as standard. As the CRO cards expire they will be replaced with yellow Site Visitor cards. This means Bishopsgate crews will continue to complete the same CITB Health Safety & Environment Test they always have, to raise awareness of the risks associated with construction sites.
For further information on the scheme changes contact the CSCS card scheme on 0344 9444777 or log onto the website at www.cscs.uk.com/cro.
Some local project managers may try to deny access to site to those crews holding a yellow Site Visitor card. If this happens our crews will be carrying the enclosed letter of confirmation with them to assure local managers that we can deliver, collect and install goods without an additional construction related qualification.
I hope that you agree with us in this decision and appreciate that if this route fails we may be forced to train our crews as “construction site workers”. With the minimum cost of gaining the green Labourer card being £450, which covers the cost of training off site and certification, this cost would need to be passed on to the relevant contracts. If we need to consider this route we will of course discuss this with you further.
Please feel free to contact me or your key account manager or indeed the office to discuss this further.
