If you have to collect 3000 ‘data bearing assets’ from a customer’s site it’s nearly impossible to count them accurately and manually using paper and pen. No matter how diligent the crews are or how much time they take to carry out the task, errors can and will creep in. Bishopsgate have been fully aware of the needs of the market and while ‘scanning’ appeared to be the panacea, many courier companies were simply scanning the assets. So if the assets got lost in the process, we would know their serial numbers but not where they were!”
Bishopsgate listened intently to the needs of the industry and designed, alongside many stakeholders the most powerful and comprehensive scanning system on the market today.
Not only do we scan the serial number of the asset into a sealable pallet, we scan this sealable pallet into our truck that is constantly monitored by GPS. So, if we had mistakenly collected the managing director’s brand new apple mac from the site and the client knew the serial number of the asset, we could not only tell you, in real time, what sealable crate the asset was on and what direction the truck was heading.
Jake Bloch who was responsible for this key development adds, “Items with barcodes are scanned against the container they are placed in, with serialised removable labels being added to items without. The system allows complete end to end tracking of a small individual item from the point of collection to the final point of delivery, with every stage being updated in real time. As with the existing track and trace system all captured information is saved automatically to the website ensuring that our customers have all the information they need saved against your job, and forms part of the proof of collection or delivery note”
